How to Compare AI Studio Pricing

Subscriptions, credit packs and per-generation billing produce very different bills at the same usage. How to work out the break-even point for your own workload.

Sticker price is the least useful number on the page

Every pricing page leads with a monthly figure, and that figure tells you almost nothing on its own. What decides your actual bill is cost per finished asset at your real volume - and "finished" is doing heavy lifting there, because it includes every rejected attempt on the way. Two platforms with identical monthly prices can differ substantially once you account for how many generations it takes you to get something usable.

The break-even calculation, in one line

Divide the monthly price by the number of generations you genuinely complete in an average month, not the number the plan allows. A plan including a hundred generations costs a tenth as much per asset at full usage as it does at one-tenth usage. Run that division for a busy month and a quiet month separately, because the gap between those two numbers is the entire argument between subscriptions and per-generation billing.

Match the billing shape to your demand shape

Steady daily volume genuinely favours a subscription - the same logic as a travel pass over single tickets. Irregular work does not, and most freelance, agency and seasonal catalogue work is irregular by nature. The question is not which model is cheaper in the abstract but whether your usage is flat enough for a flat rate to pay off.

Read the terms that only bite later

Three clauses do most of the damage: whether unused allowance rolls over or expires, whether failed generations are charged, and whether output from the free tier can be used commercially. None of them appear on the comparison table and all of them change the real cost. Check them before you compare anything else, because a cheap plan that charges for failures is not cheap.

Frequently asked questions

When does a subscription actually work out cheaper?
When you generate consistently and at volume, month after month. At that point the per-asset cost of an allowance you fully consume is hard to beat. The model fails when your work is lumpy, because you pay the same in the month you generated nothing as in the month you shipped a campaign.
What happens to credits I have not spent?
On Soozo, topped-up credits stay in your wallet rather than expiring at the end of a billing cycle, and failed jobs are refunded automatically. That second point matters more than it sounds: a platform that charges for failed generations is charging you for its own errors.
How do I estimate my monthly cost before signing up?
Take a recent real project, count the generations it actually took including the rejects, and multiply by the per-generation cost. The credit calculator does this for Soozo pricing. Estimating from the finished assets alone is the most common way people underestimate by a wide margin.
Is the free tier enough to evaluate a platform?
It is enough to judge output quality, which is what it is for. Trial output is watermarked and output on paid plans is not, so use the free credits to decide whether the results clear your bar rather than to produce anything you intend to publish.
